Think and Act LEAN

The key to effective systems is that they flow! We line up all the steps to get a steady continuous flow with no waste or delays, so that we get the best return for our time and money, and consistently impress our customers. Always begin with the end in mind. What do you want to achieve and deliver? Don’t be limited by traditional boundaries or job functions. It helps to employ some lean thinking concepts:

  • Value: How a product or service meets a need as specified by the customer. Think about value from the perspective of the customer
  • Value Systems: identify the systems, all the processes and actions needed to deliver a product or service, including gathering of information and problem solving. Map out the entire set of activities in creating or producing your product or service. Strip out the steps that duplicate and do not add value.
  • Make sure the remaining steps flow: This may mean a complete rethink of functions and roles.
  • Pull: Let the customers pull the service and value from you at a time and pace to meet their needs.
  • Perfection and transparency: Everyone can see what is going on and what needs to be done and seeks to continually improve performance, value and flow. Everyone believes the new systems being created treats everyone fairly and goes an extra mile to manage human dilemmas.
